Night Drives

when i'm not coding, there's a good chance i'm driving.

it's always the weeknd or juice wrld. the weeknd when i want the drive to feel like a movie, juice wrld when i want to think less and just go. i don't really switch it up. at this point it's less of a playlist and more of a habit.

the funny thing is i get some of my best ideas when i'm not trying to have them. i'll be stuck on something all day, and then somewhere between two songs it just clicks. the fix i couldn't see at my desk is suddenly obvious.

i think it's because driving keeps just enough of my brain busy. my hands and eyes are doing something, so the rest of my head stops forcing it and starts wandering. that's when stuff connects.

it doesn't even have to be a car. the idea for the graph on this site hit me riding a rented scooty back to the dorm. that whole story is in How I Built the Graph.

so if you ever see a note in here that seems to come out of nowhere, there's a decent chance it started on the road.
